Sharing Ideas: Honoring Vanport Stories & Protecting Our Waterways
Sharing Ideas events raise awareness of local grassroots efforts throughout Portland that strengthen community. Project presenters share the inspiration that launched their idea, how it moved into action, where they are today, and their hope for the future.
This Sharing Ideas presentation will feature:
• The Vanport Multimedia Project, a digital storytelling community-building project that highlights the untold stories and the vibrant histories of former Vanport residents. The project is facilitated by the North Portland Multimedia Training Center and seeks to uncover this little known part of history through personal story, to share with community today.
• Out of Sight, Out of Mind, is a team of three kayakers with a mission to promote the intrinsic and ecological importance of the world’s oceans, rivers, and waterways. The group has paddled their sea kayaks from Portland to the Ocean with canoes in tow to serve as “garbage barges” to collect trash.
Community Legacy Program of Our United Villages will sponsor this free event on Thursday, August 7th, from 6pm to 8pm at TaborSpace, 5441 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97215.
